Stella is a brilliant, beautiful and perfect econometrician who has intimacy issues and blames them on her having autism spectrum disorder. The Kiss Quotient doesn’t have much going for it other than it’s autism representation and it being an #ownvoices book, making it very clear as to why I avoid all forms of contemporary romances. ![]() I am also all kinds of confused as to why people enjoyed this so much that it won the Goodreads Choice Awards for Best Romance. I wanted to love it and as I wrote down the points for this review, I realised I was forcing myself to give it a glowing review. Translated from the Korean by Jamie Chang, this novel has sold over a million copies worldwide, and was also made into a movie. Most recently, this happened when I turned the last page of Kim Jiyoung, Born 1982 by Cho Nam-Joo. Because I read so many books, and consciously pick ones that I think I may like, this doesn’t come as a shock, but still, I sometimes feel as though they find their way into my hands as an act of fate, and these coincidences propel me forward when I feel my reading resolve lacking. ![]() Every once in a while during my reading travels, I unknowingly pick up a book that speaks directly to me in that particular moment in my life. ![]() ![]() ![]() Saying yes empowers and affirms others.Īs a leader, choosing to say yes acts as an affirmation to others and their ideas: I hear what you just said. There’s a reason improvisation is rooted in the phrase, “Yes, and.” Unlike no, which shuts down conversations and progress, saying yes opens up positive possibilities and invites others to build together, fostering collaboration, partnership, and further discussion. As Branson says: “If somebody offers you an amazing opportunity, but you are not sure you can do it, say yes-then learn how to do it later!” 2.
